FAQ
General Information
- What types of files can be protected?
Currently supported file types are: Word documents (doc), Excel spreadsheets (xls), PowerPoint files (ppt/pps), PDF files, HTML files, CAD files and image files (jpg/bmp/gif/tif). (Contact us if you have another type of file you would like supported).
- How is information protected?
Individual users can protect documents and email with a click
of the mouse. Alternatively there a number of solutions from
GigaTrust that can automate the protection of sensitive information
based on rules created and administered by a central authority.
Administrators can choose to protect specific files or directories
by assigning policy templates. Within each policy template the
administrator can define such privileges as view, print, save
as, copy/paste, and expiration for individuals or groups of
users.
- What is a policy template?
A policy template is a flexible tool that enables administrators to configure a set of access permissions based on company information policies. A policy template provides a means to specify a list of users and specific access rights for each user.
- Can rights be assigned without using a policy template?
Yes. Administrators can use GigaTrust file protection to apply static policies to files and upload the protected files to the web server.
- What level of encryption is applied?
128-bit AES encryption - the same type used to encode credit card numbers passed over the Internet. The rights of usage applied to each document or email are then enforced by security features woven into the applications such as Word, Outlook or Adobe Reader.
- What happens if somebody forwards protected content?
The contents are protected wherever they travel, online or offline. If the person to whom the content was forwarded does not have access privileges, then he will not be able to view the content.
