FAQ

General Information

  1. What types of files can be protected?
Currently supported file types are: Word documents (doc), Excel spreadsheets (xls), PowerPoint files (ppt/pps), PDF files, HTML files, WordPerfect files (wpd), and image files (jpg/bmp/gif/tif). With minimal work GigaTrust can enable users to protect any file that they can print. (Contact us if you have another type of file you would like supported).

  2. How is information protected?
Administrators can choose to protect specific files or directories by assigning policy templates. Within each policy template the administrator can define such privileges as view, print, save as, copy/paste, and expiration for individuals or groups of users.

  3. What is a policy template?
A policy template is a flexible tool that enables administrators to configure a set of access permissions based on company information policies. A policy template provides a means to specify a list of users and specific access rights for each user.

  4. Can rights be assigned without using a policy template?
Yes. Administrators can use GigaTrust file protection to apply static policies to files and upload the protected files to the web server.

  5. Can users assign rights to web content without administrator intervention?
Yes. Administrators can set policies to protect shared directories. Users with privileges to write to those directories can upload files. When uploaded files are removed, they will automatically be encrypted with the policies set for the directory.

  6. What level of encryption is applied?
128-bit AES encryption - the same type used to encode credit card numbers passed over the Internet.

  7. What happens if somebody forwards protected content?
The contents are protected wherever they travel, online or offline. If the person to whom the content was forwarded does not have access privileges assigned by the GigaTrust web filter, then he will not be able to view the content.

  8. What happens if somebody who does not have the GigaTrust viewing software tries to view my web page?
If the user has not installed the GigaTrust software, then he will receive a special screen informing him how to get the software.
